CHESTERTOWN ORDINANCE 06-2026

On June 22, 2026, the Mayor and Council of Chestertown introduced Ordinance No. 06-2026 an Ordinance of the Town of Chestertown authorizing the purchase and acquisition of certain property located at 116 N. Cross Street, Chestertown, Maryland, contingent upon receipt of an appraisal estimating the property’s fair market value at greater than the purchase of one hundred and four thousand dollars ($104,000.00).  A public hearing will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at 118 N. CONDUCT OF A PUBLIC HEARING

It is important the public understand how public hearings are conducted. 

In order to engage effectively, it is important to know the following: 

  • Testimony can be provided orally, or in writing – it’s best to provide both.
    • A sign-up sheet will be provided at the Public Hearing for anyone wanting to give oral testimony. You name will be called from the list by the Mayor or a Councilmember to give your testimony.  Please note that all public meeting are recorded for the record so please state your name clearly then proceed with your testimony.
    • When submitting written testimony, be sure to include your name. (address, phone number, and/or email address, if desired). Written testimony can be submitted to Town Hall at 118 N Cross Street or by emailing office [at] chestertown.com (office[at]chestertown[dot]com).
  • No responses to comments, questions, or concerns are to be provided from the Mayor and Council during the hearing – hearings should be a one-way conversation.
  • Time allotted for each individual to provide testimony may be limited – usually three to five minutes is standard.
  • Following a public hearing, Mayor and Council will not vote until their next regularly scheduled public meeting. Regularly scheduled meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month, unless Monday is a holiday, then the meeting will be held the following Tuesday, unless otherwise announced.
  • During the two weeks between the public hearing and the vote, written comments can be submitted to the Town Clerk to be enter into the record and will be given to the Mayor and Council for consideration.
  • Be courteous and respectful and allow everyone to engage in their right to give public testimony.
